How do I pay for home care?

Q: I don’t need care yet, but I know I want to be able to stay in my home for as long as possible. I am worried about how I will pay for services I might need in the future. What can I do to plan ahead?

A: It is so smart to plan ahead for care rather than waiting until you are in crisis mode to make those tough decisions. A common misconception for people who are considering home care is that Medicare will help cover the cost.  Unfortunately, Medicare typically does not cover non-medical, personal care services such as assistance with bathing, grooming and dressing. In most cases this is exactly the kind of care that people first needing home care require. There are, however, a number of options that can assist with payment including Long-Term Care Insurance, Veterans Benefits such as the “Aid and Attendance Pension” and in some cases a life insurance settlement. At Freedom Home Care, we can help you navigate through the funding options available to you. We also do our best to make care affordable by working with each individual family to provide the care needed within their budget. Please contact Freedom Home Care at 507-387-HOME (4663) if you have questions about paying for care for you or your loved one.
