VINE Faith in Action and Freedom Home Care are partnering to offer a viewing and discussion of the PBS documentary, Alzheimer’s: Every Minute Counts from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 4th at the VINE Adult Community Center (VACC) at 421 East Hickory Street in Mankato.

With power and passion, Alzheimer’s: Every Minute Counts weaves together expert commentary with compelling personal stories filmed around the country that represent previews of the future happening today. Following the documentary, Mary O’Sullivan, VACC/VINE Education Coordinator, and Christine Nessler, Freedom Home Care Business Relations, will lead a discussion focusing on Alzheimer’s disease and its impact on our community and country.

Alzheimer’s: Every Minute Counts is an urgent wake-up call about the national threat posed by Alzheimer’s disease. Many know the unique tragedy of this disease, but few know that Alzheimer’s is one of the most critical public health crises facing America. This powerful documentary, which premiered in 2017, illuminates the social and economic consequences for the country unless a medical breakthrough is discovered for this currently incurable disease.

There are now over five million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease, including 1/3 of everyone over age 85. Because of the growing number of aging baby boomers, and the fact that the onset of Alzheimer’s is primarily age-related, the number of Americans with Alzheimer’s is projected to rise by 70% by 2030, and by 2050 the Alzheimer’s Association estimates the total number could explode to nearly 14 million.

The event is free to VACC members and $5 for non-members. Call the VACC at 507.386.5586 by August 3rd to register.
